‘HEAR CARE PROGRAM’ inaugurated at Tata Main Hospital

Special Olympics Bharat Jharkhand, in association with Tata Steel, Tata Main Hospital, PHONAK INDIA & HEAR THE WORLD FOUNDATION has organized a HEAR CARE PROGRAM .

The program was inaugurated at Tata Main Hospital(TMH) by AVM (Retd.) Dr. T P Madhusudanan, GM Medical Services, Tata Steel.

Special Olympics Bharat has tied up with the largest hearing aid manufacturing company, Phonak India to screen special athletes in relation to Healthy Athlete Program launched by SPECIAL OLYMPICS INTERNATIONAL (SOI). The aim of this co-operation is to enable an increasing number of athletes to have improved hearing.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Madhusudanan said that the initiative is for a very good cause and that Tata Steel and TMH are very happy to associate with and to provide the required services for the smooth conduct of the program.

Amongst the dignitaries present on the occasion were Padam Shree Charles Borromeo, Vice President, SOB Jharkhand, Lee Walshaw, Senior Coach SUFC, doctors & staff of TMH along with senior functionary of Special Olympics Bharat Jharkhand.

Post the inauguration, screening of the athletes was done at the ENT Department of TMH under the supervision of Dr. K P Dubey, Head ENT TMH. Dr. K P Dubey appreciated the efforts made by Special Olympics & Phonak India for organizing such a program.

Mr. Krishan Sai, Senior audiologist from Phonak India, informed that quality hearing aids are being provided to the athletes as per their requirements. The cost of one hearing aid would vary anywhere between Rs 80,000 and Rs 1.70 lakhs.

In screening, 24 out of 30 athletes have been identified who will be getting these aids free of cost in approximately three weeks’ time.
