Union Ministry of Labour and Employment issued total 10.72 crore health cards for providing health insurance under Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) in 29 states and 7 Union Territories (UTs) during the past three years since 2011-12.
This was stated by Bandaru Dattatreya,Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Labour and Employment in the Rajya Sabha on March 11 in reply to the question raised by the Rajya Sabha MP Parimal Nathwani.
Dattatreya stated that 10.72 crore health cards have been issued in the country in the last three years.Among them,58.74 lakh cards were issued in Gujarat. In the state of Jharkhand, 50.19 lakh health insurance cards were issued, said the Minister’s statement.
All the districts of both the states have been covered under RSBY, said the Minister.In fact,Nathwani had sought to know the total number of health cards issued by Government in different states for providing health insurance cover under the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) during the last three years.
In reply,Minister informed that out of the 29 States and 7 Union Territories (UTs),the scheme was never operational in 2 States and 4 UTs.It was operational for some time and then stopped in 5 States and one UT.
In 22 States and one UT, the scheme is under continuous implementation starting from 2008-09. Altogether, 557 districts have been covered under RSBY so far, said the Minister.
