Hazaribagh Jail’s 60 prisoners seek self-willed death

They had lived inside Jai Prakash Narayan Central Jail in Hazaribagh for 14-20 years.Some other prisoners had been there for 32 years.All of them crib and claim that they had completed the sentence awarded by the court and yet they were not allowed to go out of jail.

In protest against it,as many as 60 prisoners from this jail had written a joint letter to President,Prime Minister,Union Home Minister,Union Law and Justice Minister,National Human Rights Commission’s Chief Justice,Jharkhand Chief Minister,its Governor,Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice,Jharkhand Home Secretary,Jail IG and Hazaribagh Deputy Commissioner seeking freedom from jail or the right to commit self-willed death.

“Despite completing the term of punishment awarded by the court,we are living in jail for 32 years.It is violation of human right as the concerned authorities have not done anything to release us from jail”,says their letter.

The letter adds that on June 20,2014,a meeting of the concerened authorities was held and 25 prisoners were released.But no meeting was held since then,it claims.
