GRSE powering Jharkhand’s quest to become warship exporter

“Acche Din(Good day)has arrived for Jharkhand with the PSU-Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineering(GRSE) using its land inside Ranchi based PSU Heavy Engineering Corporation to set up,manufactre and export Diesel Engine for warship..

As part of ‘Make in India’ programme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014,the modernised Assembly shop of GRSE’s Diesel Engine Plant located inside the HEC’s premise in Ranchi was inaugurated on April 25,2016.

GRSE CMD Rear Admiral Anil Kumar Verma,VSM,IN(Retd.) who was present during its inauguration told media persons that its plant was established in 1969.”But during the past 47 years,not a single Diesel engine was manufactured by it.”It was only assembled there”,he said.

Now,with Rs 12 crore modernisation plan under the Union government’s “Make in India” programme,Diesel engine for the warship will be manufectured there.

The inaugurated shop carries Epxy Flooring,Engine Paint Booth,AC Store,AC Tool Room,inaddition to its capability to assemble and manufecture 4000 series engines..

Verma said, GRSE had Rs 30,000 crore worth project orders for manufecturing 24 ships for the Indian Navy and the Coast Gurad.Till date,the country bought ships abroad.

Now,under the Make in India programme,the scene has begun to change,said GRSE CMD.”We have recently handed over manufectured ship to Mauritius”,said Verma adding that the demand to construct ships has increased.

As per its website,GRSE Engine Division Located at ranchi manufectures eco-friendly and state of the art and high tech engines,each quipped with high tech infrastructures.

“Presently in collaboration with MTU Germany,GRSE manufectures MTU 396-03,538 and 4000 series diesel engines.The design and construction meet the requirements of martime population and power generation,with applications in rail and road transportation”.
