Jharkhand’s Morhabadi Grounds is set to witness the first ever rally of Congress party after it’s bifurcation from Bihar on November 19.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi has given his consent to address Congress workers at the venue. The entire party organization has been pressed into action with a single point agenda – bring whoever you can to the ground on the day.

The ruling coalition wants to turn this into a show of strength, especially for its opponents, to prove that it has gathered lost ground in the tribal hinterland over the past 13 years. Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) president Sukhdeo Bhagat said: “It would be a historic rally and we expect workers from across the state to at the venue.”

Congress has only one MP in Jharkhand which has 14 parliamentary seats. In the last assembly election too, Congress fared badly. It could win only 13 assembly seats as against 18 of BJP. The support base of the party had dwindled with several leaders joining BJP, Ajsu Party and JMM.

“We have moved on and all of that is history. Several leaders from our opposition parties have joined us and together we want to help Jharkhand progress and prosper,” said Congress media in-charge Shailesh Sinha.

In the past three months, Jharkhand Congress has been organizing divisional level rallies to test the support base here. On July 18, a divisional-level conference was organized in Gumla, on August 3 in Chaibasa, on August 12 in Hazaribagh and on September 30 in Palamu.

The ground swell at all these places was good prompting the party to go ahead with the Ranchi rally, said sources in the party.

JPCC President Bhagat said all district presidents have been asked to make all possible efforts to draw the crowds. “We have placed orders for banners, posters and flags. We will create a history this time,” said Sinha.
