Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh today in Ranchi lashed out at the Centre’s move to privatise the coal sector and said that this would lead to¬† “exploitation” of labour force as it was before the nationalization of coal mines.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi says ‘Make in India’, but wants to hand over the coal sector to the corporate,” the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said.

“To stop exploitation of labourers by the private sector, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi nationalised the coal industry, giving benefit to the poor and the tribals. Now Modi’s effort to privatise it would again lead to the same exploitation,” Singh said.

“Jharkhand is a coal-rich state and the Congress wants the people of the state to use it for their development,” added the Congress leader.
He said the Modi government was out to “change” and amend a series of Acts that the previous government enacted.

“The UPA government had given RTI, Food Security Act, Right to Education, land Act and MGNREGA, which the Modi government wants to change,” Singh said.
