Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings banned for two years in IPL case

chennai-super-kingsIn a major setback to Indian skipper M.S. Dhoni, the Supreme Court panel today banned his team Chennai Super Kings from participating in IPL for two seasons.

The panel also suspended Raj Kundra and Gurunath Meiyappan for life from being involved in activities related to any type of cricket.

Rajasthan Royals, co-owned by Raj Kundra, has also been banned from participating in IPL for two seasons.

“The suspension to take effect from today,” the Supreme Court panel said.

The 2013 IPL season was mired in controversy after police launched legal proceedings against several officials and cricketers, including former Test fast bowler S Sreesanth, for illegal betting and spot-fixing.
