Despite Maoists’ poll boycott call, electorates cast votes in hordes in Palamau

The voters in the Maoist areas did what their protectors don’t do. While their protectors such as the police,officials and leaders dare not move around, the electorates today turned up at the polling booths and cast their votes in Palamau.

Palamau comprising Garhwa, Latehar and Daltongunj were Maoist infested constituencies where the Maoists had called for the poll boycott.But the electorates defied their call and excercised their franchise.

Reports reaching Ranchi said over 40 percent electorates cast their ballot by 2.30 pm in these constituencies where the polling was slated to end by 3 pm. The higest polling was recorded in Palamau’s Bhavnathpur constituency, where 42 percent balloting took place during the same period,according to a report.

The voting began Tuesday in 13 of the 81 assembly constituencies in the first of the five-phase elections in Jharkhand in six Maoist-affected districts.

A total of 3,259,536 voters will cast their votes in first phase.
