Giridih SP A. V. Homkar in the official website -Jhpolice.gov.in/Giridih writes “ I,superintendent of Police, Giridih seek the co-operation of all the citizens against anti- -social elements and naxals. By providing the police with vital information about criminals in the neighborhood you not only help the police but also make society a much safer place to live in.”
That is his declaration.A specific input provided to him by way of an e -mail by state police’s intelligence wing-Special Branch-said that a group of armed Maoists were planning to launch attack on the prison van to secure release of their comrades undergoing imprisonment in jail in Giridih.
”Near Laxmi Dharm Kanta along Giridih-Tundi road,a burnt truck is lying parked.Between Bharnodih and Ajidih is a deserted area. The prison van carrying Maoists follow this route. After commiting the crime there ,they can escape and get into forest”,said the input.
Today,Homkar is faced with the charge that he did not care to read this specific input supplied to him by the Special Branch. He did take any preventive measures to avert the incident on November 9 when the CPI(Maoist) cadres swooped down on the prison van with a huge toll:three police personnel and a prisoner were killed and eight Maoists fled.
On Monday,Chief Minister Arjun Munda held a meeting with the Home Department officials on the security lapses. He howled at the police officials for their casual approach and asked the concerned authorities to fix responsibility for the lapses and take immediate remedial action within two days.
Homkar was not available for his reaction, but sources in the police said “Damocles sword hangs over Giridih SP.”
