In a meeting with the state forest department,Jharkhand Chief Secretary Rajiv Gauba today observed that the collection of kendu leaf should be appropriate so that its cost can be deposited in the bank accounts of beneficiaries.
Today,Gauba was addressing a meeting with the state forest department officials at the Project Bhawan in Ranchi.
Gauba directed the Forest department to upscale and intensify kendu leaf activities and remove the role of contractors and middlemen in its business.He also took note of policies adopted by other states in dealing with the kendu leaf operations..
Kendu leaf operations in the State provide direct employment and supplementary livelihood to more than 9 lakh people in rural areas of which 70 per cent are women. It generates additional 19 lakh man-days each year,according to a report.
