By recovering a pipe bomb in Chatra district of Jharkhand, the security forces have found that Naxalites had gained expertise to use low explosives to produce a relatively large explosion.
The CRPF had recovered a seven kg pipe bomb on a tip off from the roadside passing through Jolhatetara village in Chatra district today, said Chatra SP Surendra Kumar Jha.
Available indication suggests that the Naxalites had planted it to target security forces.
Though the search operation was still on in the area, experts said a pipe bomb is an improvised explosive device,a tightly sealed section of pipe filled with an explosive material.
”The containment provided by the pipe means that simple low explosives can be used to produce a relatively large explosion and the fragmentation of the pipe itself creates potentially lethal shrapnel”,says a senior police officer.
