Central Reserve Police Force’s DIG is facing the charge of beating a constable to death.
Jharkhand’s Dy SP Deepak Ambastha has directed the police to arrest him.
The CRPF DIG Bhanu Pratap Singh, deputed in Jharkhand to carry out operation against the Naxalites,is alleged to have beaten a constable Bhukal Bhagat to death on September 15.
Soon after his death,Bhagat’s nephew Amrit had filed the FIR at Nagri police station in Ranchi district, alleging that Bhagat, who was suffering from kidney related ailment, was on duty when he was hit by Singh on his stomach.’This proved fatal”,said Amrit.
This prompted the police to take cognizance of the FIR under Section 304(Murder without motive).
Inquiry was conducted by DY SP Ambastha who found that the FIR was based on facts.”Singh wanted late Bhagat to to get him booze. When he replied that there was no booze in the stock,he hit him with his hand on his stomach.Bhukal fell down.He was taken to Apollo hospital.During his treatment there he died’,stated Ambastha in his inquiry report.
In this case, there were three witnesses. While one Sukhram Oraon had stated that DIG Singh had beaten up late Bhagat, two others Kanahiya and Uma Shankar had in their statements noted that none of them had seen DIG Singh beating him.
