A couple has been arrested in Ranchi for allegedly demanding Rs five lakh from a contractor, posing as Maoists, the police said today.
Responding to a complaint lodged against the couple by contractor Audhesh Kumar, the police laid a trap and arrested Enamal Haq and his girl friend, Superintendent of Police (Ranchi City) Jaya Roy told reporters.
Calling themselves Maoists, the accused had demanded Rs five lakh and were caught when they came to collect the first installment of Rs one lakh from the complainant at a spot, the SP said.
