
Investigation by the police indicate that the contractors involved in dumping coal illegally at the railway station premise at Chandwa and Tori were behind the murder of an environmental activist Prahlad Prasad.
“While doing enquiry into his murder,the police have gained sufficient facts showing local coal transporters had gained benefits by illegally dumping coal which was opposed by Zila Sangharsh Samiti led by Prasad”,says Harilal Chauhan,IPS officer,who is incharge of Chandwa police station in Latehar.
Prasad,who was leading a massive agitation under the banner of Jan Sangharsh Samiti against the illegal dumping of coal at these railway stations causing environmental pollution in the reas was murdered in broad
broad day light in Latehar on June 15.
This had cause sensation among the people in Latehar who respected Prasad for his environmental friendly struggle in public interest.While the police and the district administration alleged to have been backing the coal transporters,Jharkhand State Control Board had closed closure notice just before Prasad was murdered.
Subsequently,following media reports,the national Human Rights Commission took suo motu cognizance of a media report that environmental activist Prasad was murdered.
