CM Soren hands over Rs 5 lakh cheque to Bigan Soy

Jharkhand Chif Minister Hemant Soren today handed over a cheque of Rs five lakh to Bigan Soy.

The cheque was handed over to her on the dias erected at Morahabadi Maidan in Ranchi to celebrate ‘World Indigenous Day.’

The dias was graced by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha President Shibu Soren,Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh,CM Hemant Soren and Minister(Sports)Gitashree Oraon.

Soy had helped Indian girls create history on Sunday by winning their first-ever Junior World Cup hockey bronze medal after beating England 3-2 on penalties in Monchengladbach, Germany.This was India’s first medal ever in a World Cup competition.
As such she became star of the show mainly because she had saved five attempts from the English women as India escaped with a 3-2 margin on penalties.In fact,Soy,hadn’t played even for a minute in the tournament prior to this game.

When asked what made her save goal as a goalkeeper against the British girls,Soy today told jharkhandstatenews.com that she was determined to ensure victory to the team.”I always concentrate on the ball rather than the stick and the body of the rival player.With my eyes fixed on the ball,I moved with it and saved the goal”,Soy said.

This morning Jharkhand Chief Secretary RS Sharma and Governor’s Principal Secretary NN Sinha greeted her and handed over bouquets of flowers to her at Civil Services Officers Club in Ranchi.The Sports Authority of India’s Coach Vishwanath Singh among others accompanied her.
