The IG is all set to install CCTV cameras inside wards and cells of jails from where prisoners conspire to commit crime outside in towns and cities. In fact, the IG will personally monitor the footage of the cameras.
It would be for the first time that CCTV cameras would be installed inside jails in Jharkhand.A proposal has been prepared for installations of these equipments to keep a 24X7 track on 17,000 prisoners by the end of this year.
Information gathered by the police showed that many hard core criminals and the Maoists hatched plans to execute crime outside jails through their loyalists.
Sandip Thapa, veteran shooter, currently lodged in Ranch jail, had committed such a crime many times in the past.Even those eight Maoists who had escaped after the prison van by which they were returning to jail from the court in Giridih was attacked by their comrades of the CPI(Maoist) on November 9, had conspired from inside the jail”,said a senior prison officer.
IG(Prison) Shivshankar Tiwari has confirmed the move.”This is how we will be able to keep a watch on these prisoners”,said Tiwari.
