A hospital run by the Chotanagpur Regional Handloom Weavers Co-operative Union Ltd is in the eyes of a storm with the state government recommending a CBI probe into siphoning of Rs 3.5 crore by its leaders to build it.
Jharkhand Governor Syed Ahmed has already recommended a CBI probe into it.
The state government’s move was followed by a series of inquiries by the state government’s cooperative department and a PIL in the Jharkhand High Court sought a CBI probe into this scam.
The PIL filed by Enamul Haq,chairman of Banapiri Primary Weavers Cooperative Society, had accused Union’s chairman S A Ansari of diverting Rs 3.5 crore fund meant for welfare of weavers to build a hospital business and thereby neglecting the interest of weavers in general.
Incidentally, this hospital was managed by Apollo Group of Hospitals.
The petition alleged that fake insurance through ICICI Lombard and premium released by the department of industries were diverted to the coffers of the hospital management whereas the owners of the hospital by amending the bylaws of weavers cooperative society in 1993 had sought permission for opening a 15-bed dispensary.
It further alleged that nearly 35 members of the weavers’ family are working in the hospital whereas the weavers are deprived of free health care, the petition had alleged.Following this petition, the court took note of it and now the state government in its affidavit submitted before it has said that it was in favour of a CBI probe into the case.
