BJP leader CP Singh is set to quit tomorrow.
Singh, who had refused to put in his paper after his party’s rival Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Hemant Soren was sworn in as Chief Minister of Jharkhand on July 13,is gearing up to resign. In all probability,he will tender his resignation before Soren tables the motion seeking support of the majority of 82 MLAs in the Jharkhand Assembly on July 18.
Singh, who had gained spotlight by not resigning and given jitters in the ruling coaltion in which more than a dozen MLAs were facing criminal charges, may take his own route to resign.
After offering prayers at the Bangla Mukhi Mandir in Ranchi,Singh is going to head towards the Assembly. And before the proceedings begins on the floor of the House,he may take the moral high ground saying he was elected unopposed by the Assembly in 2009.
As per the law,the Speaker is supposed to address his resignation to the Deputy Speaker.“Since there is no body officiating as Deputy Speaker in the Assembly,he was constraint to wait for the House to assemble. Now,when the House has assembled,I am going to inform this House that I am here to resign”,Speaker Singh may say evoking positive response from among both the ruling and the Opposition camps.
If he chose to do so,the House will have to appoint a Pro-Tem Speaker to conduct the proceedings of the House tomorrow when Soren is slated to table the motion seeking vote of confidence in his favour.
