Bandh paralyses Jamshedpur

Normal life came to a halt in Jamshedpur following a dawn to dusk bandh called by businessmen in protest against the killing of a rice merchant Vinod Agarwal on last Saturday.

Almost all shops,market places,banks,cinema houses,petrol pumps remained closed and the traffic on the roads and lanes in the steel city was thin.The bandh was called by Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce and Industry demanding arrest of the killers the rice merchant.

During the day,the protagonists of the bandh marched on the main streets.Some of them were seen smashing window screens of cars and vehicles including a bus in Mango.

Nearly 110 agitationists were taken into custody by the police to maintain law and order in Jamshedpur. The bandh was supported by political parties including Congress, BJP and JVM (P).

SCCI President Suresh Sonthalia expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the steel city.”If immediate steps were not taken to improve the situation, no investors will come to Jharkhand”,said Sonthalia.
