Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan praised AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for conceiving the idea of building a memorial for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar (‘Ambedkar Smruti Vanam’) in the capital city Amaravati and said she was proud to have Dr. Ambedkar’s birthplace — Mhow — in her Parliamentary constituency (Indore) in Madhya Pradesh.
Handing over soil collected from Parliament premises and the Yamuna river water that will be used in the construction of Ambedkar Smruti Vanam, to a delegation led by A.P. Minister for Social and Tribal Welfare Nakka Anand Babu in New Delhi on Wednesday, Ms. Mahajan said a befitting memorial for Dr. Ambedkar was built at Mhow by the Madhya Pradesh Government and it was in the fitness of things that the A.P. government decided to build the iconic place that would feature among other things a 125-feet tall statue of the principal architect of the Constitution of India. Mr. Anand Babu said foundation for the memorial park near Inavolu in Thullur mandal, was being laid on April 14 marking the 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Ambedkar. The park is coming up in 20 acres.
