Sikhs took out a colourful procession in Ranchi on Monday to mark celebrations of the 544th birth anniversary of Gurunanak Dev ji.
The procession of men,women and children,starting from Main Road Gurudwara,covered a circular route via Gurudwara in Ratu Road and ended at the place of its origin.
During the procession-called Nagar Kirtan-man,women and even a 13 year old Sikh played with the sword.They were led by Panch Piyare and a Palaki carrying the sacred Guru Granth Sahib decorated with flowers.
Though the birth anniversary is on Wednesday,all Gurudawars in the city including those located at Main Road,Ratu Road and Kadru were decked up with festoons and glittering lights.
Kulvinder Singh of the “Panth Khalsa Shashtra Vidhya”with a 15 member team from Amritsar performed the “Gatka Martial Art’ in the procession.Kulvinder Singh,who represents the team said:”The gatka is the martial art of the Sikhs and has roots in the origin of Sikhism.The performers comprised young and old.”
