The 5th International Conference AITISM 2016 was inaugurated by chief guest, Padma Shree Nalini Ranjan Mohanty, on 26th November 2016 at Ispat Bhawan, Shyamali, Ranchi, Jharkhand, India.

Automation & Information Technology in Iron & Steel Making (AITISM): Vision 2025 is the 5th International Conference of the AITISM series being organized by Computer Society of India (CSI), Ranchi Chapter in association with Indian Institute of Metals, Ranchi Chapter and Microsoft Innovation Centre Indore.

Padma Shree Nalini Ranjan Mohanty, Former Chairman , Hindustan Aeronautics Limited was the Chief Guest of the Conference. He stressed upon the fact that Indian Industry has to raise standard in IT and Automation Implementation If India wants to catch up with China economically.

Other dignitaries present on the occasion were, Neeraj Mathur, Executive Director, CET, SAIL and Chairman, Computer Society of India, Ranchi Chapter. B.N.Thakur, Executor Director, RDCIS, SAIL, Ranchi, Stephen Nel, Global Head, Thermofisher Scientific, Dr. Anirban Basu, President , CSI, A.K. Paul, GM I/c. RDCIS, SAIL, and Chairman, Indian Institute of Metals, Ranchi Chapter, R.K. Tripathi, Executive Director, SAIL Safety Organisation, A.K. Biswal, Head of Automation, RDCIS, SAIL and Anup Prasad, Secretary, Computer Society of India Ranchi Chapter.

On this occasion, a commerative stamp on AITISM-16 and Conference Proceedings were released by National executive members of CSI, Sanjay Mahapatra, Vice President, R.K. Vyas, Treasurer, and H.S. Mishra, Regional Vice President.

President, CSI, Anirban Basu stressed upon the fact that IT industry has a big role to play in improving the safety and productivity in steel industry.

Thakur dealt on the topic on how steel industry gets transformed from a dusty environment to a neat and clean environment for working by implementation of automation and IT in steel industry.

Chairman, CSI, Ranchi Chapter spoke on the advantage of IT industry and its inroad in steel industry.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Shri Anup Prasad, Secretary, CSI, Ranchi Chapter.

Around 400 delegates and participants from 40 different Organisations and countries (India, Germany, France, The Netherlands, Australia) comprising of Automation & IT experts from Steel Industry, Academia and Technology Providers will deliberate upon the implementation of new generation Automation & Information Technologies in Steel Industries like IT in Business Functions, SMART computing, Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Robotics & Embedded Systems, instruments for on-line Elemental Analysis, advancement in Wireless Control Systems, Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Systems for Steel Industry etc.
